Water restrictions are now in place for Creston and surrounding communities.

Stage 1 water restrictions are now in place for the Town of Creston and surrounding Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) areas.

The restrictions, the RDCK said in a press release yesterday, means that the watering of lawns, gardens, shrubs and trees is permitted only between 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. Watering of gardens, trees and shrubs using drip irrigation, a watering can and/or hand-held hose, which eliminates overspray, is permitted at any time.

Summer watering can increase water consumption by up to 200 per cent, so these restrictions will remain in place through Sep. 30, although stricter measures may be put in place depending on supply and demand throughout the summer.

Regional district water conservation measures are available at www.rdck.ca, and Town of Creston water conservation measures are available at www.creston.ca.
