Gov. Gen. David Johnston will award 13 Creston Valley residents with the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award on March 4.

Thirteen Creston Valley residents will receive the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in two ceremonies that will be streamed live on Friday. (Two others, Ken and Signe Miller, are unable to attend and will receive their awards at a later date.)

More than 150 Canadians will be recognized in the 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Pacific time (10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Creston) ceremonies at Vancouver’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on March 4. Gov. Gen. David Johnston will present those awards, as well as the Exemplary Service Medal, Decoration for Bravery and Meritorious Service Decoration.

“The Governor General presents honours on behalf of all Canadians in communities across the country to help share inspiring stories, celebrate tremendous contributions to our society and connect with Canadians,” says a press release. “From community volunteers to astronauts, from actors to members of the military, from scholars to everyday citizens, hundreds of Canadians earn our applause and gratitude.”

Creston Valley residents receiving award are Charlotte “Dollie” Kaetler, Donna Kutzner, Eric Kutzner, Heather More and Tanna Patterson in the morning ceremony, and Gertie Brown, Julie Ewashen, Thelma Johnson, Christine Munkerud, Terje Munkerud, Nicole Nilsson, Jean Syroteuk and Merv Syroteuk in the afternoon.
