Creston woman killed in collision near Cranbrook

A 52-year-old Creston woman died in a head-on collision five kilometres south of Cranbrook on Highway 3/95 yesterday morning.

Cranbrook RCMP and East Kootenay Traffic Services responded to the 7:30 a.m. collision, in which a northbound white minivan crossed the centre line and struck a southbound dump truck.

The minivan’s driver sustained minor injuries, but the passenger was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene. The dump truck’s driver was uninjured.

“Early investigations reveal that speeding relative to the road conditions was a factor in this collision,” said East Kootenay Traffic Services Cpl. Shayne Parker in a press release.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released by the RCMP.
