Crews from Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service were kept busy battling two fires within 45 minutes of each other on Wednesday afternoon.
They were called to the first incident just before 1 p.m. in the 2700 block of Allwood Street in the former Allwood Estates Mobile Home Park.
A large tree had caught on fire (in photo at left by John Morrow) and the blaze was in danger of spreading to adjacent businesses – including Master Lee’s Tae Kwan Do School – but was quickly extinguished by crews.
Business owners in the area have previously expressed concerns about squatters living on the empty mobile home property. Trailers on the land have been demolished, and the area – owned by Onni Group – is slated for development.
There were two previous fires on the property this year – in February and June – that destroyed abandoned trailers.
The second fire on Wednesday took place at about 1:30 p.m. at an abandoned home on Marshall Road near Salton Road.
The fire was contained to one room in the one-storey residence.
No further details were yet available on either fire.
