The air was thick with smoke in the Creston Valley yesterday due to a six-hectare fire northwest of Kitchener.

First reported on Sunday, air tankers and two helicopters were responding to the blaze yesterday. An initial crew was on-site and 10 more personnel were en route to the high elevation fire near Six Mile Creek in the Iron Range.

“The cause of the fire is not known and is under investigation,” said Karlie Shaughnessy, a fire information officer with the BC Fire Service’s Southeast Fire Centre. “The fire is not threatening any structures or communities.”
