On Friday, Jan. 23 at approximately 9:15 a.m., Midway RCMP were involved in a file that involved a lone male driving a stolen truck from Grand Forks, who was responsible for a break and enter into a Midway residence.
The lone male entered a home and stole several personal items from the residence, items listed thus far include a quantity of jewelry and firearms. According to the police the suspect walked through an unlocked front door into the residence and later fled in the stolen vehicle.
Midway members located that vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in Midway and pursued the vehicle. The pursuit was shut down due to fog and road conditions, and to not put the general public in harm’s way.
The stolen vehicle and a male, 44 years of age, were later apprehended in the Osoyoos area with the stolen items. The investigation is still on going.
Mayes reported that Midway RCMP would be seeking charges by Crown council for break and enter, flight from a police officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Osoyoos RCMP will be seeking charge approval for flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of firearms and breach of conditions.
Grand Forks RCMP will be seeking charge approval as well but the details are undetermined at this time.
The case is still under investigation.
Boundary residents are reminded to lock their doors at night and during daylight hours when leaving your homes. “If you notice any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, vehicles that don’t belong or if you know that your neighbour is away for an extended period of time, and suspicious activity is happening, do not hesitate to call 911 forthwith,” Mayes said.
