Criminal charges in latest Surrey murder

Kacey Rogers was killed on Feb. 26 in what police describe as a home invasion turned deadly.

Two men have been arrested and charged for the murder of a Surrey man a week ago.

Surrey’s Russell Bidesi, 21, and New Westminster’s Joshua Martinez, 19, have been charged with second degree murder, robbery and possession of a prohibited firearm in the shooting of 31-year-old Kacey Rogers.

Bidesi and Martinez allegedly burst into Rogers’ 14000-block Grosvener Road home on Sunday, Feb. 26, and Rogers was fatally shot.

Rogers was not known to police, who believe he was the victim of a targeted attack.

“This was a planned home invasion turned deadly,” said Cpl. Adam MacIntosh of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). “We are very pleased to be in a position to make this announcement, only a few days, after Kacey ‘s murder. Although charges have been laid, this investigation (is) in its early stages, will remain active and continue to progress.”

Investigators from IHIT, assisted by members from the Delta Police Department, the New Westminster Police Service and from several other Investigative and Integrated Units across the Lower Mainland District, worked together on the investigation which resulted in the arrests.

Investigators continue to explore any possible gang association.
