Downtown Vernon’s parkade is going through a transformation.
City council has agreed to the Vernon Public Art Gallery installing temporary art work on the east wall of the parkade, which is home to the VPAG.
“We managed to receive funding for this project through the B.C. Winter Games legacy grant giving us the opportunity to feature work from an accomplished local artist,” said Dauna Kennedy Grant, with the VPAG.
The selected artist will be Bryan Ryley.
The city will also refurbish the parkade sign and install a sign that promotes free Saturday parking.
Charging station moves
Electric car owners will be getting a charge at a new location.
The City of Vernon is moving the car charging station from the visitor information centre to a lot across from Cenotaph Park.
The move is necessary because it would have been too expensive to upgrade the required utilities along the railway track at the visitor centre.
“This location shares many of the same benefits of the visitor information centre site in that it is within the city centre and in close proximity to downtown businesses, providing users with many options to visit while they are waiting for their vehicle to charge,” said Rob Miles, the city’s long range planner, in a report to council.
The initiative is a partnership between the city and B.C. Hydro.
