Local teachers, seen here demonstrating along Central Avenue on Monday, were considering whether or not to hold a province-wide strike vote.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will be holding a rally to support teachers – during their three-day strike – at Gyro Park in Grand Forks today at noon.

Janet Thorpe, acting president of CUPE Local 2098, said that the rally will take place concurrently with a number of other rallies across the province – locally, there will also be a rally in Midway beginning at the curling rink.

“We’re doing this in order to participate in the large CUPE rally that’s being held on the legislature grounds (in Victoria, B.C.) at the same time,” Thorpe explained.

“We’re encouraging everybody to come out. This is in support of the teachers and also against Bill 22 (the Education Improvement Act).”
