Cyclist crashes through window of parked van

• Between April 1 and 8, the Sidney North Saanich RCMP responded to 143 calls for service. Of note:

 

• On April 1 at 5 p.m., police responded to a cyclist crash on Highway 17 near Amity Drive.

A cyclist riding a road bike collided with a van parked with a flat tire. The force of the impact propelled the cyclist through the back window of the van. The cyclist was taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

 

• On April 7, at 4:22 p.m., Sidney North Saanich RCMP responded to a minor motor vehicle rear-end collision at Highway 17 and Beacon Avenue in Sidney.

Investigation determined the driver at fault was impaired. The female was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.

 

• RCMP Constables Scott Seutter and Kent Nelson have been named to Alexa’s Team for the second time.

Alexa’s Team is a provincial initiative that recognizes officers who have removed a high number of impaired drivers from the region’s roadways.

Four year old Alexa Middelaer was killed by a drunk driver in 2008.
