Cyclist struck in collision with truck north of Courtenay

A helicopter was initially called to assist, but patient was transported by ground

A cyclist was taken to hospital following an accident with a vehicle north of Courtenay Tuesday morning.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m., according to Comox Valley RCMP. On Headquarters Road, near Tyee Valley Road, a cyclist was injured in a collision with a truck. Courtenay Fire Department members were controlling traffic on Headquarters Road while responders were treating the cyclist.

Initially, a helicopter was called in to assist with the operation, but the call was cancelled. The cyclist was transported by ground from the scene about 9:45 a.m. There are no details on the condition of the patient, and the RCMP is still investigating the incident.
