Transformers: Age of Extinction is the fourth entry in the big-screen adaptation of the popular toy line from Hasbro, and although it is not exactly a reboot of the series it does feature an almost all-new cast.
After the last film, director Michael Bay had expressed that he would not return for any more sequels, but it appears now that executive producer Steven Spielberg has convinced him to do another three films.
Also signed on for the entire next trilogy is new star Mark Wahlberg, who worked with Bay last year on Pain and Gain. Set four years after the last instalment, Wahlberg plays a single father and mechanic who comes across a rusted semi-truck who turns out to be Optimus Prime. Together with his daughter (Nicola Peltz) and her boyfriend (Jack Reynor), they have to deal with a powerful businessman (Stanley Tucci) who wants to use the Transformers to help push the boundaries of technology.
If you are not a fan of the series, Transformers 4 will likely not make you one but those who are will get even more action than before with the longest running time of all the movies, clocking in at 165 minutes.
At a reported budget of $165 million, that gives you $1 million per minute of eye candy.
Like the previous movies, don’t expect much of the budget spent on plot or character development (the script is written by Ehren Kruger, who penned the last one)—just a lot of special effects and action.
And even without former leads Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhammel, Wahlberg on his own more than makes up for both of them with acting chops and star power.
