The May 18 deadline is fast approaching for submitting nominations for this year’s Citizen of the Year Award.
The annual award is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus who are asking residents to nominate worthy citizens who have contributed to the community during 2016.
Nomination forms are available in the Castlegar News and at Canadian Tire, Safeway, City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Castlegar Community Complex. Completed forms should be dropped off at the above locations before the deadline.
The guidelines state that a nominee should be an individual/group who has made outstanding contributions to the Castlegar and District community in cultural activities, recreation, religious activities, educational activities, work with the elderly, work with the disabled or promoting the Castlegar and District community. Nominees must be residents of Castlegar and District since Jan. 1, 2016.
The Castlegar Citizen of the Year honour was first started by the Kiwanis Club, but was taken over by the Knights of Columbus in 1997.
The ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 31 at 6 p.m at Saint Rita’s Parish Hall. The winners will also take part in the annual Castlegar Sunfest Parade.
