The approximately 50 seniors displaced after the fatal fire at the Birch Apartments April 12 won’t be out on the street.
Their temporary housing assistance was due to run out this week.
Rich Coleman, the B.C. minister of housing, announced at the all candidate meeting Wednesday that help has been negotiated.
“My understanding is now the City and the Township have along with BC Housing worked out that those seniors will be housed there for three to six months,” Coleman said. “They’ll have a place to live for three to six months while their homes are fixed.”
He and the other candidates in the Langley East riding and the Langley riding were at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church hall for an all candidates hosted by local seniors organizations when he made the announcement.
