An Alberta woman was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Wednesday after a deer darted from the trees by Milner Gardens and Woodland and collided with her motorbike.

The St. Albert woman was eastbound on Highway 19A at around 2:40 p.m. with her husband following her on his motorbike, according to Sgt. Darrell Robertson of the Oceanside RCMP.

The deer struck her front wheel and the woman was thrown onto the roadway and transported to the hospital by B.C. Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

“The Oceanside area has a great number of deer and police warn people to expect the unexpected,” Robertson said, especially where there are bushes, trees or high grass near the road.
