Deer Park Forestry Service Road has been closed after heavy water flow caused part of the road to slide into the lake at kilometre 7.2. The road has been deemed unsafe for travel by a geotechnical expert.
Eighteen full-time residents of Deer Park are affected by the closure, as are property owners in Renata.
“We expect the road to be closed for at least the next couple of days,” Andrew Bellerby, Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) director and general manager of fire and emergency services, said Tuesday. “We are determining the needs of the community and what we can do to assist residents of Deer Park.”
Once the road has been fixed and declared safe for travel, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) will update the public.
