Delays expected on Sooke Road due to six car pile up

Traffic is expected to be backed up until tow trucks arrive to remove damaged vehicle from scene

Traffic is backed up on Sooke Road from Sooke River Bridge to Otter Point Road due to a six car pile-up that occurred on the bridge around 10:45 a.m.

According to police, six vehicles were involved in a car pile-up due to a combination of being stopped and rear ending one another.

Five vehicles have been removed from the site of the accident.

The reason why vehicles were stopping on the bridge is currently under investigation.

Traffic is at a stand still after the final vehicle — a truck with an attached trailer — swerved around the stopped cars and received extensive damage to the rear axle.

Fire Chief Steve Sorensen said traffic will be backed up for a while, as emergency crews wait for three tow trucks to remove the jacknifed truck.

Two people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
