Federal funding of $26,000 will support the restoration of the Denman Island Community Hall’s foundation.
The money, announced Friday by MP Vancouver Island North MP John Duncan, comes from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The Harper Government’s investment of $26,000 will enhance the services provided by the community hall and create jobs. With the funding provided today, the Denman Island Recreation Commission
Society will restore the foundation of the Denman Island Community Hall.
The project involves removing the deteriorated wooden foundation and replacing with a concrete foundation, as well as installing new flooring, wall, roofing, and insulation components. The project will also relocate the side entry doors for safer emergency evacuation.
“Every single member of the community comes through the doors of this facility in the course of a year,” said Marjorie Gang, president of the Denman Island Recreation Commission Society. “The board of directors is extremely grateful, on behalf of the entire community, for the support from the Western Economic Diversification Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, which will allow us to complete the comprehensive centennial restoration of our Denman Island Community Hall, a social, political and cultural heart of the community for 100 years.”
“Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada,” said MP Duncan. “By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
The CIIF supports projects that look to improve existing
community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
