Brenda Denton said she and her family are planning to attend court “every day” for the next two and a half weeks, as the details of her son’s death are revealed in court.James Denton, 19, was stabbed last July near the entrance to G.P. Vanier Secondary School following the conclusion of a day-long music festival at the nearby Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. He later died at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Comox.The 16-year old suspect accused of his death — who cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act — has been charged with second-degree murder, although Crown prosecutor Gordon Baines indicated he will seek an adult sentence against the suspect if convicted.The Supreme Court trial is scheduled at the Courtenay courthouse from June 4 to 22.Denton told the Record a lot of people plan to show support at the trial, and noted James, who was working for BC Hydro at the time of his death, “lived to hunt and fish, and was looking at buying property near his mom and dad.”Last December, a successful application by Crown counsel for a direct indictment to Supreme Court removed a preliminary inquiry, which was originally scheduled for February.photos@comoxvalleyrecord.com
