Former City of Abbotsford deputy manager Jake Rudolph will receive a six-figure payout after his employment was terminated this spring.
Rudolph had been the second-in-command under former city manager George Murray, as well as the city’s second-highest earner. He quietly left city hall in April, but it hadn’t been disclosed whether he was owed any severance.
Documents obtained this week by The News following a freedom of information request reveal that Rudolph was handed a termination of employment notice on April 10. Although most of the notice is blacked out for privacy reasons, one unredacted portion shows that Rudolph was owed severance amounting to one year’s salary of $219,692, along with approximately $7,500 more to cover benefits.
The letter is dated April 10 and bears the signature of Murray’s replacement, Peter Sparanese, who took over as city manager in March after serving as the head of the city’s engineering and utilities department.
Although Rudolph will be getting a payout, it’s still unclear if the also-recently departed head of the city’s parks and recreation received any severance. Heidi Enns left the city in early May, after serving as general manager of parks, recreation and culture. Enns was the fourth-highest earner at city hall. A freedom of information request submitted by The News for records relating to her departure turned up no documents.
The city has said it will not comment on personnel matters.
