A recycling operation in Lumby is bursting at the seams because of its popularity.
Venture Training opened a bottle and recycling depot on Miller Street in January and steady public demand means the building is at capacity.
“They are outgrowing the facility,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.
As a result, the village is looking at issuing a temporary use permit so Venture Training can install two storage containers on the property.
Acton says council wants to support the non-profit agency’s efforts.
“They are providing employment and helping Lumby collect recycling that wouldn’t be collected,” he said.
“They need something in place before the snow flies.”
Venture Training accepts refundable drink containers as well as computers, TVs, light fixtures, glass, plastic film, styrofoam, paper products, plastic and metal containers.
“This has overwhelmed our facility and we find ourselves lacking in covered, secure storage,” said Eileen Howells, in a letter to the village.
The two containers would be 20-feet in size.
“We propose to place the containers at the back of our property within secured fencing next to a dead-end lane,” said Howells.
