Plans for the new Castlegar BC SPCA West Kootenay Community Animal Centre will be revealed to the public Tues., March 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Castlegar & District Community Complex. The announcement was originally scheduled for February but was delayed due to heavy snowfall.
The BC SPCA’s chief executive officer Craig Daniell, Castlegar Mayor Lawrence Chernoff and other local dignitaries will be on hand for the official unveiling of plans.
There will be a short program with remarks by Mayor Chernoff , Craig Daniell and others, followed by an unveiling of the architect’s rendering of the new facility.
Preliminary plans for the facility included about 4500 sq. ft. of space with a price tag of about $2 million. The new facility will replace the aging Trail SPCA facility.
“What we are looking to do is to provide the services that we have provided in the past, such as animal cruelty investigation and sheltering of animals, but in a very modern and great facility,” said Daniell in a previous Castlegar News interview. “We also want to expand services into the community… things like youth education programs.”
