Dreams will come true across the Okanagan today.

The 18th annual Wendy’s Dreamlift Day runs from 6 a.m. to closing at nine Wendy’s restaurants throughout the region, including the 27th Street location in Vernon.

“All the proceeds from the day’s sales in the dining room and drive thru, as well as staff, management and owner’s wages will be earmarked for the next Interior Dreamlift to Disneyland,” said Akbal Mund, one of the owners of the local Wendy’s franchise.

The Sunshine Foundation of Canada makes dreams come true for children, between the ages of three and 18, who are challenged by severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses.

“The foundation’s Dreamlift to Disney program enables more than 80 special children to fly to Disneyland to enjoy a magical day of fun in the sun,” said Mund.

During today’s Wendy’s Dreamlift Day fundraiser, local celebrities and dignitaries will be on hand along with members from the RCMP and the B.C. Ambulance Service.

Also on hand in Vernon will be Lt. Robert Peterson, with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Anaheim, Calif. The sheriffs act as chaperones when the children are visiting Disneyland.
