A heat wave is on the horizon, and the District of Kent is getting ready.
The district is temporarily opening Agassiz Agricultural Hall as a cooling centre for residents to find relief from the oncoming heat.
The cooling centre will be open Friday and Saturday (July 30 and 31) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“This heat event may increase the potential for heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and worsening pre-existing health conditions that can lead to hospitalization or death,” reads a statement from Mayor Sylvia Pranger.
The district reminds the public to drink plenty of water, stay in a cool place and check on older family, friends and neighbours.

“Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle,” Pranger advised. “Watch for symptoms of heat illness – nausea/vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat and extreme thirst.”
