District officials meet with Telus on virtual doctor visits

Babylon by Telus Health may provide solutions for those without a doctor

According to a 2018 report from Canadian Institute for Health Information, almost 5 million Canadians did not have a regular doctor. Digital health solutions may be able to help close that gap.

In mid-September, District of Kent officials attended a conference call with Telus as they roll out their Babylon Health partnership, aiming to combine locally licensed doctors with artificial intelligence to bring digital health services to the district and beyond.

Babylon by Telus Health is now available in communities throughout B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, allowing patients to see locally licensed doctors from their smartphones anytime, including nights and weekends, at no cost to them. The Babylon by Telus app is available to download for free, and provincial healthcare covers the cost of video consultations.

According to information supplied by Telus, most cases can be resolved through in-app consultation. However, if the matter needs to be escalated to an in-person visit with a Babylon doctor, their clinic is in Vancouver, which can be reached at 855-577-8838.

In addition to consulting with doctor with this app, patients are able to check symptoms (related and unrelated to COVID-19), get prescriptions and referrals, get insight into their overall heath in real time and much more.
