A Nanaimo senior is upset after his dog was struck by an electric bike rider who just rode away without stopping.
Bruce Bengert has been putting up posters in the south end of the city trying to identify someone who allegedly hit Bengert’s dog Nov. 3 along the parkway trail near the Harewood hydro station.
“I yelled at him and I guess that just made him hurry up a little bit more,” Bengert said.
The dog, a cross between a border collie and an Alsatian, suffered a dislocated hip.
“And my dog is a 100-pound dog, it’s not a chihuahua,” Bengert said.
He described the bike as an “electric dirt bike” and is concerned that since it’s so quiet, people and animals aren’t warned get out of the way.
By the end of the day, Bengert had $1,300 in veterinary bills and said there will be more veterinary treatment needed. He and his son set up a GoFundMe page and Bengert hopes the bike rider will come forward and help with vet costs.
“Why should I end up footing the whole bill because of some person’s inattention?” he asked.
