A Vernon RCMP police service dog team helped solve a break-and-enter case at local vet clinic.
RCMP were notified May 3 at around 11 p.m. that an alarm had gone off at the Vernon Veterinary Clinic on Kal Lake Road.
Officers were told by the alarm company that a single motion alarm had gone off on an exit door. Upon arrival at the clinic, police noticed broken glass and non-secured door at the rear of the building.
“A police service dog team was dispatched, and the team tracked and located a Vernon man, 26-years-old,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The man was found by police to be in possession of hydromorphine, a narcotic used for pain relief. It was one of the items taken from the clinic.
Police escorted the suspect to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for medical attention.
“He was taken to the hospital because our officers were dealing with an individual suffering from the affects of his drug abuse, and they wanted to make sure he hadn’t consumed any of the drugs,” said Molendyk.
The man was released from hospital and police custody on a promise to appear in court.
