The Golden Dolphins swim season has officially come to a close, concluding with an awards ceremony and scavanger hunt.
Aug. 17 and 18 marked the final races for the season for the Dolphins, where swimmers took to the blocks once again to challenge their personal best times.
This started with the youngest Dolphins (aged 5-9), who competed in the 25 metre freestyle, 25m backstroke, and 50m freestyle events.
Swimmers Max Bracko, Reef Coatesworth, Maclaren Mentz, Maya Oxner, and Hannah Watchorn dropped over 30 seconds from their personal best times in an event achieved earlier in the season.
The rest of the club competed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. These results will be submitted to an online race, where swimmers times will be pitted against each other and ranked across the province, once the competition wraps up at the end of the month.
The annual awards presentation night marked the official end to the season on Aug. 19, where all swimmers were presented certificates of achievement for their effort and resilience.

Sportsmanship Awards: Tristan Anstiss, Malcolm Labonville
Coach’s Choice Awards: Sawyer Martin, Henry Stonehouse
Team Spirit Awards: Skye Trerice & Jade Trerice

The Dolphins board looks forward to seeing the team back in the pool in the summer of 2022, which will be the 40th anniversary year for the swim club.
The Dolphins would like to say thank you to the recreation team and lifeguards with the Town of Golden for being positive partners as they navigated through a season challenged by a pandemic, a heat wave and variable air quality.
The club would also like to thank all the businesses who stepped up and offered their support for the team when it became clear they would be able to host the Golden Swim Meet earlier this summer.
