RCMP are making the request due to various road closures in the vicinity of Spirit Square and the Foreshore Park, after the fireworks display, to allow for the safety of pedestrians.

Fight night

Police were kept busy on the night of June 18.

In an unusual two-and-a-half hour period, starting at 6:30 p.m., Mounties responded to five calls for fights in progress at various public locations in the city. There were no serious injuries and alcohol was the contributing factor in most, if not all, of the incidents. A few spent the night in jail with some combatants earning themselves a day in court.
