A power pole lays across 29th Street with wires strewn everywhere after a moving van hooked onto one of the lines and pulled the pole down Thursday around 3 p.m., knocking power out to virtually every business and home in the vicinity, and causing traffic delays as several streetlights were out of order.

Downed power lines slows Vernon traffic

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area of 29th Street and 43rd Avenue in Vernon after a van accidentally pulled down a power pole, leaving the lines stretched across 29th Street.

The incident happened at around 3 p.m. Thursday, and knocked power out to the area. The accident also knocked out several traffic lights in the vicinity.
