Downtown skating rink to close for the season March 1

Kelowna City Hall says Mother Nature is making it too difficult to keep the rink frozen.

The days of free outdoor skating on the Stuart Park rink downtown are numbered— at least for this winter.

Kelowna City Hall says with warmer weather on the way, it will become difficult to maintain the ice at the Stuart Park rink and, as a result, it will close the rink March 1.

Skaters have been using the free outdoor rink since Dec. 2 and the city is encouraging anyone who wants to get a last few skates in before the closing to do so over the next 10 days.

Those who still want to skate, albeit inside, can use other city skating facilities, including Memorial Arena, the Rutland Arena and the Capital News Centre in the Mission during their respective public skating times.
