The proposed drive-thru development at Lougheed Highway and Cedar Connector was adopted by council Monday evening.
Urban Design Group’s 1.37 ha (3.39 acres) commercial development was approved under a zoning bylaw amendment that will allow a 16-stack drive-thru Tim Hortons and a 10-stack drive-thru Burger King. While drive-thrus are prohibited under the Official Community Plan, the original application was delivered in December 2007, which precedes the OCP amendment.
Council voted 5-2 for adoption, with the same two councillors opposing as in third reading, Couns. Danny Plecas and Heather Stewart.
A 794-signature petition against future drive-thru developments was delivered to council in May.
