There’s been an arrest in a motor vehicle accident that left a woman with head injuries.
On Thursday at about 10:18 p.m., RCMP officers received a report of a black Ford Mustang with Alberta license plates rolling into a ditch on Okanagan Avenue near Longacre Road.
“Witnesses at the scene reported two people, a male and female exited the vehicle,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson.
“The male fled on foot. The female, who sustained a serious but non-life threatening injury to her head, stayed at the scene, and was transported to hospital.”
In fact, the woman passenger required more than 30 stitches for a deep laceration to the top of her forehead.
Attempts to track the male driver were unsuccessful by the police service dog.
“Indications were the suspect was picked up by a vehicle,” said Molendyk.
“The 23-year-old male suspect from Vernon was later located at the hospital.”
He was arrested, and released on a promise to appear in court in September for expected charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to remain at the scene and driving while prohibited.
