A Sidney man is dead after the truck he was driving flipped over the median on the Pat Bay Highway in Central Saanich Monday morning.
At around 9:30 a.m. Central Saanich Police were called to the site of the crash near Island View Road. Deputy Chief Les Sylven of the Central Saanich Police Service, says a red truck was traveling southbound and for an unknown reason crossed the concrete median. It flipped over and struck a northbound pick-up truck. How it happened is currently under investigation by the Saanich Police collision investigation team.
The coroner’s service had arrived on the scene at around 11 a.m. to investigate as well, said Sylven. He added the driver of the blue pick-up was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway’s northbound lanes were closed for four to five hours and was expected to re-open early Monday afternoon.
Sylven said this is the first fatality on the highway in Central Saanich this year. The cause, he continued, will be investigated. Police will look into weather and road conditions at the time and other factors that could have led to the crash.
