Drivers can expect maintenance delays on Highway 20’s Bella Coola Hill

The grading and gravelling of a 18-kilometre stretch should be completed by mid-August

Travellers along Highway 20 can expect delays 50 kilometres east of Hagensborg, Heckman Pass from now until Wednesday, Aug. 15 between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

The Ministry of Transportation said maintenance is ongoing and the road is reduced to single-lane alternating traffic with expected one-hour delays, excluding on long weekends.

A spokesperson for the ministry said grading and gravelling is taking place on the entire 18 kilometre section of Heckman Pass on the Bella Coola Hill from the avalanche gates at the top of the hill to the beginning of the sealcoat at the bottom.

“The work is approximately 60 per cent and on target to be completed by mid-August,” the ministry confirmed.
