The city’s first heavy snowfall came during the morning commute Monday, wreaking havoc amongst drivers and causing one injury accident.
According to Sgt. Rick LeBeuf of the Williams Lake RCMP, police attended three accidents Monday as a result of road conditions.
The only injury accident occurred at approximately 8:14 a.m. on Highway 20 near the golf course during a time of heavy snowfall and icy roads.
LeBeuf said the driver of a School District 27 truck headed westbound in the outside lane lost control and crossed two lanes of traffic before being broadsided on the passenger side front by a blue Ford pickup headed east.
The driver of the SD 27 truck was not injured, however, his passenger received minor injuries while the driver of the blue Ford, which had extensive front end damage and a deployed airbag, complained of a sore back and hand injury. All three were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Traffic was affected for more than one hour as emergency crews re-routed passenger vehicles onto Hodgson Road while dozens of loaded log trucks waited on Highway 20 for the lanes to reopen.
LeBeuf is reminding the public that drivers need to adjust speeds to meet the current road conditions and to have adequate winter tires.
The weather forecast is calling for more snow throughout the week, followed by frigid temperatures for the weekend.
