The Clements Centre Society in Duncan has launched its eighth Annual Sock Drive.
The drive, which ends on Dec. 2, has already seen 220 pairs of new socks donated from the community, and spokeswoman Debbie Oliwa said she’s hopeful that the organization can reach this year’s goal of 2016 pairs of socks donated by the deadline day.
Oliwa said the socks are given back to others in the community who can use them. Socks have gone to many agencies in the Cowichan Valley in the past, including Cowichan Lodge, Margaret Moss Health Centre, the Salvation Army, Warmland House Shelter, and the North Cowichan Fire Department.
“It’s important for people’s health and comfort to have warm and dry feet, especially at this time of year,” Oliwa said.
“Many people in the community don’t have a laundry or any way to keep socks clean and dry.”
Oliwa said new socks can be dropped off at the Clements Centre Society’s headquarters at 5856 Clements St.
She said people with large donations can have them picked up by calling the society at 250-746-4135.
Cash donations that can be used to buy socks are also accepted.
