Earl Storey has put his name forward for a spot on the Abbotsford School District’s board of education in the upcoming local government election.

Storey said he comes with a “wealth of life experience” and can “bring a fresh perspective and enthusiastic support” to Abbotsford’s school board.

Storey, an account manager at B.A. Robinson, a plumbing and heating company, also notes his position as an associate member and past position on the board of directors of the Fraser Valley chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association (FVMCA).

In that industry, Storey said he has been involved in organizing events to help young adults entering the workforce, as well as co-ordinating golf tournaments for the FVMCA.

Beyond work, he also pointed to experience volunteering with the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver, the Scotia half-marathon and supporting a women at risk program and the Abbotsford and Langley food banks.

Storey said he has been involved in a number of sports teams over the years, including coaching in Abbotsford Minor Hockey and in Abbotsford Mixed Slow Pitch, as well as involvement in track and field with the Valley Royals.

“Storey is a strong supporter of parental participation at all levels of education. He believes that parents remain the strongest influence as primary educators and advocates for their children,” a news release announcing Storey’s candidacy reads.

“He is passionate about establishing and maintaining strong, confident bonds of communication between school and home.”
