Early counter-petition results indicate city will proceed with lease

Alternate-approval process numbers come in at least 36 petitions short of number needed to stop city from entering 10-year lease.

A preliminary count of counter petitions indicates the city will be proceeding with a 10-year lease agreement for property intended for use in the construction of a Ross Street underpass.

As part of an alternative approval process, the public had until Jan. 10 to submit 1,361 counter petitions to stop the city from entering the lease agreement. On Monday, city administrator Carl Bannister said the unofficial number of petitions received was 1,325, adding several will be disqualified for not meeting stated criteria.
