Some wildfire risk reduction and ecosystem restoration burns are planned for the Cariboo, including an area nine kilometres northwest of Batnuni Lake, near Neewa Creek.
A total of 26.5 hectares will be burned beginning Monday, April 19 and continue periodically until April 30.
“This is an ecosystem restoration burn aims to restore native grasslands through low to moderate intensity ground fire,” the BC Wildfire Service noted in a news release, noting it will also improve habitat and forage opportunities for grassland dependent plants and animals, as well as decrease the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
The project is being administered by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development with the assistance of the BC Wildfire Service.

Earlier this week the Cariboo Fire Centre issued a news release urging the public to be cautious with outdoor burning.
