Foul play ruled out in the Monday morning fire in the Golden Dawn Mobile Home Park adjacent to Parksville Community Park

A 90-year-old woman died in a fire early Monday morning in a Parskville mobile home park.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service confirmed the deceased is Irmgard Charlotte Szepat.

The owner of the trailer in the Golden Dawn Mobile Home Park, located at the foot of Corfield Avenue adjacent to Parksville Community Park, said the woman had lived in the home for about 10 years and she still had her driver’s licence.

According to the coroner, at 2:30 a.m. Monday, neighbours noticed smoke coming from the trailer home where Szepat resided, and called 911. When the

Parksville Volunteer Fire Department had extinguished the fire, they found Szepat’s body in the trailer.

Fire investigators were still working at the scene Tuesday afternoon and the owner of the trailer said he had not yet gained access to the home.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service, Oceanside RCMP and the fire department are continuing their investigation and the coroner’s news release said “foul play has been ruled out at this time.
