Victoria mayor Dean Fortin has been re-elected with a 60.45 per cent majority. Paul Brown placed second, with 25.36 per cent.
Three incumbent councillors lost their seats to three newcomers.
John Luton, Lynn Hunter and Philippe Lucas – all elected to council in 2008 – have been replaced by Lisa Helps, Ben Isitt and Shellie Gudgeon. They’ll join incumbents Geoff Young, Charlayne Thornton-Joe, Marianne Alto, Pam Madoff and Chris Coleman at the council table.
“We look forward to building that new team,” said Fortin during his acceptance speech at Union Pacific Coffee. “We have a reaffirmation that City of Victoria wants to be a caring and sustainable city… This is about our opportunity to keep the momentum going on things we really hold dear: affordable housing, public transportation, economic development, ending homelessness.”
Elected to the Capital Regional District are Geoff Young, Ben Isitt and Marianne Alto.
