Two North Okanagan politicians want to represent their constituents again.
Bob Fleming has filed papers for a second term as BX-Swan Lake director, while Jackie Pearase also wants a second term as rural Enderby director.
“The work is interesting and there’s an opportunity to help the community with things that need improvement,” said Fleming, who owns a landscape business.
“Things take time and I found that out in the first term. I would like to see some things come to a conclusion.”
Among the concerns for Fleming is motorist safety at Highway 97 and Bernie Road and he says he will continue to push the Ministry of Transportation for upgrades there.
Also on his agenda are a trail above Kalamalka Lake to Oyama and completing the Regional District of North Okanagan’s gravel extraction policy.
Fleming has also been a member of the oversight committee for the sports facility being constructed next to Okanagan College and the facility is expected to open in the spring.
The official community plan for BX-Swan Lake (Area B) has been wrapped up, but some additional work may be required.
“There could be a sector plan for Cosens Bay,” said Fleming.
Pearase is a writer and she has represented rural Enderby (Area F) for one term.
“I like the position and serving the community,” she said. ‘There are still some issues I would like to pursue.”
Pearase’s plans include a revised official community plan for the area and a watershed plan. A local area plan for Kingfisher could also move ahead.
“There are some issues there that I want to proceed with,” said Pearase, adding that another issue is parks infrastructure.
One item before RDNO has been the former Canadian Pacific rail line between Spallumcheen and Sicamous and whether it should be purchased for recreational activities.
“I’m not sure where that will go but I’m part of those discussions,” said Pearase.
“I feel I’ve been responsive to people and their concerns. I am trying to work for the betterment of the larger community.”
Also running in rural Enderby is former director Herman Halvorson.
