Election season in Agassiz, Harrison: What you need to know

Kent, Harrison, Sasquatch Country, SD78 nominations are in

On Oct. 20, local voters will go to the polls to choose a new mayor, city council and school board.

Voters in Electoral Area-C, will also elect directors for the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) board.

Here are some links to important information voters need to know, followed by some key dates leading up to the 2018 general local elections on Oct. 20.

The chief election officer for the 2018 Local Government Election in the District of Kent is Bev Kennedy. Election questions in DOK can be directed to (604) 796-2235.

In Harrison Hot Springs, Barbara Tenbos has taken on the role of chief election officer. She can be reached at (604) 819-5845.

The chief election officer for the Fraser Valley Regional District is Jamie Schween, who can be reached at (604) 702-5000.

The Harrison Agassiz Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor all-candidates meetings open to the public in both municipalities. Candidates will be asked a series of questions collated and presented by a moderator. Anyone who would like to ask a question can do so by emailing the Chamber of Commerce at info@harrison.ca.

October 10, 2018 -8 a.m. – 8 p.m at the FVRD Community Access Centre (10220 N. Deroche Rd, Deroche)

Mail ballot voting is available for FVRD electors who:have a physical disability, illness or injury affecting thier ability to vote at voting locations; expect to be absent from the FVRD on all voting days; or reside within a remote area located more than 25km from the nearest voting location at which they are entitled to vote.To apply for mail ballot voting, contact elections@fvrd.ca before 4pm on Oct 12, 2018 and provide your full name;

whether you are registering as a resident or non resident property elector (NRPE);

residential address;

if you are an NRPE, the property address in relation to which you will be voting;

the electoral area in which you reside or own property;

preferred method of delivery of your mail ballot package – either pick up at the FVRD office or by regular mail to an address you provide.
