Oak Bay police are on the lookout following a whole roster of thefts from unlocked vehicles over the weekend and the last two weeks.

On Saturday, June 24, police received 11 reports of vehicles being entered overnight, on Kinross Avenue, Eastdowne Road, Burdick Avenue, Beach Drive, Dalhousie Street and Dewdney Ave. All vehicles were left unlocked and parked in private driveways, police say. Items stolen included a purse and coins.

The following day, on June 25, police received a report of vehicle being entered overnight in the 2700 block of Burdick. The vehicle was also unlocked and parked in a private car port.

As a result of all the recent thefts, police want to remind residents and visitors alike to not leave valuables in their vehicles.

“This is an opportunistic crime that can be easily reduced by removing valuables from cars and locking car doors,” said Oak Bay Police Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties, adding that majority of property crimes this week were from unlocked vehicles.

More thefts from unlocked vehicles include on June 21, when police responded to a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of Denison Rd. where two drills, a flashlight and change were stolen.

On June 19, police received four reports of vehicles being entered overnight, which occurred on Island Road, Linkleas Avenue and Lulie Street. Items stolen included money, wallets and iPods.
