Elizabeth May to launch new book this weekend

MP Elizabeth May, will be reading from and signing her latest book this weekend

Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands and the Canadian Green Party Leader, Elizabeth May, will be reading from and signing her latest book, Who We Are: Reflections on My Life and Canada this weekend at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney.

May’s newest book, which she calls a combination of a memoir and manifesto, was released earlier this month, and the event on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. will be the first time she will publicly read from it.

“The event has been sponsored and organized by Tanner’s Books who have done a wonderful job,” May said.

“During the event I’ll be doing a few readings from the book and answering questions. I’m really looking forward to it.”

May said when she published her latest book, she knew the release had to be in Sidney.

“We’re launching in Sidney, of course, because Sidney is booktown,” she said, smiling.

In her latest book, May said she reflects on her extraordinary life to date, providing personal perspectives on her approach to politics, policy and what it means to be Canadian.

“The book has a lot of policy and issue content but it comes through the lens of what has shaped my thinking. The book isn’t told through theory, it’s told through how I actually see things day to day,” said May.

“Here I am, I’m 60, and I’ve had a really interesting life. Every person I’ve met has helped to shape how I think about things. The book is moreso about Canada than me, I think, and I hope people find it to be a fun read as well as an empowering one.”

Copies of the book can be purchased at the event or reserved ahead of time at Tanner’s Books in Sidney, or online at tannersbooks.com. Admission to the event at the Mary Winspear Centre is $6.
