In excess of $400,000 was stolen from the Penticton Lakeside Resort by an employee.

In excess of $400,000 was stolen from the Penticton Lakeside Resort by an employee.

Nicole Simone Cuylle, a 50-year-old Penticton woman, was sentenced to 27 months in jail Tuesday in Penticton court for theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.

“I think she was looking after the books, deposits and was taking money over a period of time,” said Sgt. Rick Dellebuur.”

RCMP said Cuylle stole the money over a period of five years, with the charges dating back to May 31, 2003 and police investigation beginning on July 31, 2008.

“These frauds do take time because you have to piece it all together, figure out where the money went and put the paper trail together. Our investigators did put a lot of effort into it and obviously it was well done because we ended up with this conviction and a fairly good sentence for it as well,” said Dellebuur.

David Prystay, general manager of the Penticton Lakeside Resort, told the Western News that he was bound by a court order to not make any comment about the incident.

“I think the big thing is how it affects a business and the trust,” said Dellebuur. “Hopefully, the sentence in this will act as a deterrent to others that are in the capacity of trust. The court certainly takes a dim view of stealing from your employer.”
