Enbridge has accepted the District of Fort St. James mayor and council’s invitation to come speak to the council and community.
Enbridge representatives will attend the council meeting on November 23 to answer questions about the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline currently under review by a three-person panel.
Enbridge has also responded to the information requests sent to them earlier this fall, and the answers to the questions can be found on the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project Joint Review Panel website: http://gatewaypanel.review-examen.gc.ca/clf-nsi/hm-eng.html.
The Northern Gateway Project as proposed consists of a one kilometer wide right-of-way for two 1,170 km pipelines between Bruderheim, Alberta and a marine terminal in Kitimat, B.C..
The proposed pipeline would run just south of Fort St. James and will cross the Stuart, Necoslie and Salmon Rivers in the area, as well as include a pump station near the residential area of Airport Road.
The pipeline from east to west would send bitumen, a precursor of crude oil, mixed with what they call diluent. Diluent is what thins the thick, unrefined bitumen enough to pump it through the pipeline.
The pipeline from west to east would return the diluent to be reused.
