Enderby accident sends five to hospital

A three-car accident just north of Enderby sent five people to hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m. rural officers from the Vernon/North Okanagan detachment received a call of a serious motor vehicle accident on Highway 97A at Old Salmon Arm Road.

“The one car northbound was stopped in the highway trying to make a left turn,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gerry Kovacs.

“Another vehicle rear-ended that vehicle sending it out into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane where is was struck by a southbound vehicle.”

A total of five passengers were taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries.  The severity of their injuries is not known at this time.

Traffic was also backed up as it was re-routed on Old Salmon Arm Road around the accident, while crews worked at the scene and an RCMP collision analyst continued the investigation.

“It was a good two to three hours,” said Kovacs.

Police would like to remind the motoring public of the upcoming Easter long weekend. Drivers should expect heavier than normal traffic volumes, and are urged to buckle up, slow down and drive safely.
