Enderby considers information kiosk

The city and Enderby Chamber of Commerce are moving towards construction of an information kiosk at Belvidere Park.

“If people arrive after hours when the chamber office is closed, they can still access information,” said Coun. Roxanne Davyduke.

A primary focus for the kiosk would be those visitors using the Shuswap River.

“In order to enhance our visitors’ experience and safety, the information kiosk will give the users vital information on the river conditions, water levels, paddle and float times and contact information for shuttle services,” said Corinne Van De Crommenacker, chamber general manager, in a letter.

“By providing access to a map and details of the Shuswap River, visitors can be educated and use the river safely and with confidence.”

Brochures will also highlight accommodations, restaurants and retail opportunities.

“The kiosk will have an interactive component with Facebook and Twitter links to direct visitors to the exploringenderby.com site for more detailed information,” said Van De Crommenacker.

It’s proposed that the kiosk be constructed on the existing cement slab next the park’s interior walking path.

However, Mayor Greg McCune says there may be a need to revisit the location.

“We want it accessible to people and sometimes, if it’s in the middle of a park, people may not walk there (from the parking lot),” he said.

The kiosk will be funded through a grant from Destination B.C.

“The chamber has confirmed there will be no funding request made of the city or the Enderby and District Services Commission,” said Tate Bengtson,  the city’s chief administrative officer.
